Leif returned to her room and leaned back against the door, her body slowly sliding down.
She tugged her collar loose and took several deep breaths. At last, the heat trapped in her body began to disperse. She had already spent several days enduring the Southlands’ drastic temperature swings between day and night. On the road, she had only ever complained that the nights were too cold. Yet now, she was unbearably hot, and her heart was beating far too fast.
