By the time the spear was almost upon her, her body was already moving on its own, cutting sharply to the side without any real thought at all.
Lily went with the motion, twisting her body and rearing up on her front hooves. She screamed into the air, then took a single stride sideways—and in that single step, horse and rider were already a full body-length from where they’d just been.
