The intimate gesture hinted at an extraordinary relationship between the two.
Even the bravest of the underlings wouldn’t dare to bully someone associated with Luo Ye, let alone do anything inappropriate…
“You should go back,” Luo Ye said, creating some distance and letting Dong Enyu leave first.
Dong Enyu frowned.
She didn’t want to leave yet, fearing she might miss some important information.
“No need, I’ll wait for you here,” Dong Enyu shook her head, indicating she wanted to stay.
Luo Ye took out something and handed it to her—it was the key to the Apartment.
“Go back,” he said, the two words leaving no room for negotiation.
Holding the cold key in her hand, Dong Enyu, despite her reluctance, had no choice but to comply.
She watched Luo Ye and a few underlings enter a room inside, seemingly to discuss something.
Reluctantly, Dong Enyu followed Luo Ye’s instructions and left the Mountain Area with the others.
On the way down, everyone in the car talked about going for drinks and asked Dong Enyu if she wanted to join.
Naturally, she agreed, hoping to glean some clues from them.
Tonight, they didn’t go to Star Diamond but instead headed to a Night Club under Qi Ge’s control.
Once inside the private room, Dong Enyu immediately started pouring drinks for the four men.
She could hold her liquor well and drank carefully, and within an hour, the men were nearly passed out drunk.
Dong Enyu sat between two of the men, holding a glass and chatting with them.
The topics were broad, even touching on Qi Ge and the type of women he liked, but Dong Enyu only responded with a few polite remarks, as she wasn’t interested in that.
“Those women, are they all bought overseas by the Boss?”
she asked, swirling the glass in her hand, the ice clinking as it melted.
The man on her left, his cheeks flushed from drinking, waved his hand dismissively.
“Of course, they’re all the Boss’s goods.”
“I saw a lot of unfamiliar faces today.
They don’t seem to be Qi Ge’s men?”
she probed, referring to the men with guns who clearly weren’t part of Qi Ge’s crew.
“Yeah, those guys were sent by the Boss to help out.
Damn it!
It’s obvious he doesn’t trust Qi Ge and wants to have them monitored,” the man slurred, taking Dong Enyu’s glass and downing it in one go.
…Monitored?
Dong Enyu lowered her gaze.
It seemed the Boss didn’t trust his own capable subordinates.
Or should it be called caution?
“Qi Ge often handles the Boss’s goods.
You guys must know each other, right?
Does the Boss have a regular crew?”
Dong Enyu worried she was asking too much, so she turned to the man on her right, offering him a cigarette to make it seem like a casual question.
“Not really.
Those guys are tight-lipped and don’t talk to us at all,” the man said, taking the cigarette and lighting it.
“Is that so?
I think the Boss is overly cautious,” Dong Enyu chuckled, narrowing her eyes.
“After all, the Boss is so capable, running a seamless human trafficking operation across the sea that even the police can’t trace.
Why would he be afraid of Qi Ge?”
“Hmph, the police?”
the man snorted.
“What are the police?
The Boss has many friends.
As long as they say a few words, the police wouldn’t dare to come after us.”
“Truly worthy of Wutang,” Dong Enyu nodded, leaning closer to the man, her voice low enough for only the two of them to hear.
“Have you ever met the Boss?”
Tong Tang, the enigmatic Boss, seemed to have no gossip about him.
“No, we’re just small fry in the Boss’s eyes,” the man admitted.
Dong Enyu drank a few more glasses with them, and seeing that the group was too drunk to be coherent, she sighed in frustration.
These people were useless for information, so she decided to head back.
Since becoming Luo Ye’s subordinate, they naturally lived together, which was different from her relationship with Yong Le.
Dong Enyu couldn’t quite explain it, but without emotional baggage, she found it easier to get along with Luo Ye, which wasn’t a bad thing.
But as she stepped out of the Night Club, she immediately saw the last person she wanted to see…
“Oh!
You’re here too!”
It was Yong Le…
She walked over, greeting Dong Enyu.
Under the neon lights, her wild hair was still as fiery red as ever.
Her eyes locked onto Dong Enyu’s, as if trying to burn her, the direct and dazzling gaze forcing Dong Enyu to look away.
Dong Enyu lost, unable to meet those fiery eyes even in front of Yong Le.
“Yeah, have fun. I’m leaving,” Dong Enyu replied dismissively, quickly walking past Yong Le.
“Wait! Why are you in such a hurry? Let me buy you a drink,” Yong Le said, grabbing Dong Enyu, who shook off her arm.
She didn’t want to be touched.
Dong Enyu turned back to glare at Yong Le, feeling very flustered.
She suppressed the urge to flee, reminding herself to remain composed.
“I’ve already had quite a bit to drink.
You go with your friends,” she said, not ignoring the woman standing next to Yong Le.
She was a youthful-looking girl, dressed very fashionably.
Standing with Yong Le, they looked like a natural pair, their outfits seemingly coordinated, her innocent smile complementing Yong Le’s passionate aura perfectly.
…Another darling?
“Xiao Lele, aren’t you going to introduce us?”
the girl asked, clinging to Yong Le’s hand, her voice immediately recognizable to Dong Enyu.
It was the woman who had complained about her being long-winded on the phone last time.
“Of course,” Yong Le smiled, wrapping an arm around the girl’s shoulder, then pointed at Dong Enyu.
“This is my ex-girlfriend, Dong Enyu, and this is my current girlfriend, Titi.”
She finished with a loving kiss on Titi’s forehead, making Dong Enyu feel an urge to laugh.
A declaration of ownership?
Indeed, Yong Le loved doing that.
“Hello, Titi,” Dong Enyu smiled graciously, extending her hand for a handshake.
“Oh! So you’re Dong Enyu! You really are an auntie,” Titi laughed, making a face.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean any harm. It’s just that Xiao Lele told me she used to date an auntie, and I thought she was joking.”
“It’s fine, I didn’t take it to heart,” Dong Enyu said, withdrawing her hand and slipping it into her coat pocket, clenching it.
Hearing her call Yong Le so sweetly, Dong Enyu chuckled awkwardly.
Is this the type Yong Le likes?
It really suits her style…
“Xiao Lele, let’s go!”
Titi urged, clinging to Yong Le’s arm, urging her to go inside.
Dong Enyu turned her head, ready to leave, but Yong Le grabbed her.
“Baby, you go in first, I’ll be right there.”
She patted Titi’s butt, urging her to go inside.
“Okay, hurry up, don’t keep me waiting too long.”
Titi didn’t say much and went into the Night Club on her own.
Once it was just the two of them outside, Dong Enyu forcefully shook off the hand on her wrist.
“You have something to say to me?”
She took three steps back, distancing herself from Yong Le.
Those crimson eyes made Dong Enyu uncomfortable, as if mocking her needless panic.
“Yes.”
Yong Le stepped forward, and Dong Enyu stepped back.
After Yong Le took five steps and stopped, she raised her eyebrows and smiled, “Am I that scary?”
She asked if Dong Enyu was afraid of her.
“I just want to keep a proper distance.”
Dong Enyu shrugged, signaling Yong Le not to come any closer.
But what kind of distance is considered proper?
Yong Le took a step forward, closing the gap, and before Dong Enyu could retreat, she grabbed her arm and pulled her into an embrace.
Dong Enyu tensed up, and upon smelling the familiar perfume, she began to struggle, but Yong Le’s grip was like steel, unyielding.
“Let go of me!”
Dong Enyu clenched the hand around her waist so tightly that her nails almost pierced through the fabric.
“This is what I think is the most appropriate distance,” Yong Le’s mischievous smile left Dong Enyu stunned.
She deliberately leaned in, her breath warm against Dong Enyu’s ear, “If you struggle, it means you’re afraid of me.
If you don’t want me to misunderstand, just be honest.”
Whether or not to concede was up to Dong Enyu.
With those words, Dong Enyu stopped resisting.
Because she didn’t want to lose, at least not again.
Yong Le, having gotten her way, smiled wickedly.
She deliberately held Dong Enyu tighter, their bodies pressed so closely together that they could almost hear each other’s heartbeats, strong yet a bit erratic.
The scent of Yong Le’s perfume brought back memories for Dong Enyu.
Two months of dating wasn’t short, nor was it long, but during that time, she was very happy.
Perhaps when undercover, it’s easier to open up and give your heart to someone you trust… and before you know it, you’re in too deep.
“I heard you’re with Luo Ye now?”
Yong Le broke the silence, resting her chin on Dong Enyu’s shoulder, just like old times.
Together?
Dong Enyu gave a faint smile.
“She’s my boss.”
Dong Enyu replied to Yong Le.
She didn’t play love games with Luo Ye.
Luo Ye wasn’t like Yong Le; she didn’t shout or act up.
Compared to Yong Le’s frivolity, Luo Ye’s steadiness made Dong Enyu a bit nervous, yet she felt safe under her protection.
Luo Ye was reliable.
Although she didn’t talk much, Dong Enyu knew Luo Ye wouldn’t toy with her emotions…
“Is that so?”
Yong Le casually asked, her words light and fleeting in the wind.
Dong Enyu still heard it, that “is that so” seemed to mock her, laughing at the idea that her relationship with Luo Ye could be just a boss and subordinate.
But Yong Le was right; she and Luo Ye had gone beyond friendship, beyond a boss-subordinate relationship.
They could embrace naked, kiss each other, but the chasm in their hearts was insurmountable.
Not crossing it might be a good thing…
“She’s boring,” Yong Le suddenly tightened her grip, startling Dong Enyu out of her thoughts, “She’s boring, you’ll be bored with her.”
She teased Dong Enyu’s ear, her voice low and suggestive.
“I don’t think so.”
Dong Enyu blinked and replied with a faint smile.
“If you ever find it dull, give me a call.”
Yong Le released her hold, leaned in, and stole a kiss on her cheek.
Dong Enyu wiped the lingering warmth from her cheek with her sleeve, watching Yong Le leave with a carefree stride.
Her once calm heart was now in turmoil.
Chaos!
Chaos!…
Yong Le was just like that, wild and unrestrained.
She should have punched her earlier!
Dong Enyu left in a fluster, almost getting hit by a car while crossing the street, cursing loudly in frustration.
But she was cursing herself, for always letting old wounds be easily reopened, causing her immense pain.
Despite the time that had passed, Yong Le still left an indelible mark in her heart.
Now, Dong Enyu could only play dumb, trying to cover up all the good memories.
