“Turns out you’re an undercover agent too?”
While Dong Enyu was rummaging through the drawers, Yong Le took the opportunity to catch her breath.
She wasn’t panting anymore, but the wounds on her body still hurt, causing her to tremble slightly.
Dong Enyu peeked out from the side of the table, glanced at Yong Le, and then continued searching for the files.
“Seriously? You’re an undercover agent?” Yong Le exclaimed in surprise when Dong Enyu didn’t deny it.
“That brainless and slow Dong Enyu is actually an undercover agent?” The more she spoke, the more incredulous it seemed.
Yong Le stared at Dong Enyu’s back, knowing that while the woman was useless, she was bold.
She hadn’t expected that after changing her identity, the woman would become so… ruthless.
“Do you think everyone likes to be high-profile?” Dong Enyu didn’t find the files, but she did uncover a stash of guns under the chair, confirming the heavy firepower.
“Dyeing your hair red and causing a scene everywhere, afraid no one would know you’re here to stir up trouble?” She recalled the report Yuan Fangzhong had brought, mentioning how Yong Le single-handedly took down a small gang in the North District.
Although the numbers weren’t large, she still managed it.
Indeed, a lunatic.
“I damn well want to turn the world upside down,” Yong Le spat.
From the moment she was suspended, she was no longer a cop.
“What about the councilman? The gang? Qing Shui Gang? What’s so great about them? Didn’t I crush them all? Member Liu thought he could do whatever he wanted because of his rank? He framed my father back then, and now it’s my turn to kill him!”
Hearing this, Dong Enyu’s expression darkened slightly, warning, “It’s over.” This guy still had murder on her mind… The woman walked up to Yong Le, staring at her calmly, “Give me the files, and I’ll put in a good word for you with the superiors.” Whether Yong Le could return to the Police Station depended on her luck, but it was mostly unlikely.
She advised Yong Le to give up on the idea of murder, but the woman refused.
No matter how much Dong Enyu beat her, Yong Le just laughed, a crazed laugh.
“Meow… meow…” Suddenly, the untimely sound of a cat’s meow broke the oppressive atmosphere.
Dong Enyu looked towards the window, seeing a small gap in the window that couldn’t be fully closed, with two or three kittens wandering outside.
Perhaps the commotion was too loud, or maybe the smell of blood was too strong, but they came to check.
Dong Enyu didn’t think much of it at first, but then her gaze shifted downwards, sparking an idea.
Cats… cat food… Oh, and she hadn’t checked under the sink yet.
With this thought, Dong Enyu moved towards the kitchen sink, noticing Yong Le’s pupils contract slightly.
“Seems like you still care about those stray cats.” Dong Enyu opened the cabinet under the sink, finding a stash of cat cans with an inconspicuous paper bag pressed behind them.
It felt quite heavy in her hand.
The woman slowly stood up, hearing the loud crash of a chair falling over.
Dong Enyu turned around to see Yong Le holding a gun, aiming it at her.
She glanced at the loosened rope, which Yong Le had forcibly torn apart.
But similarly, Yong Le’s wrists were also torn and bleeding…
“Put it down,” Yong Le said, closing her left eye and only using her right eye to aim at Dong Enyu.
“I don’t have much strength right now, and if I’m not careful, I might miss.
If you dare to move, be careful you don’t lose your life.” Gone was the playful smile, replaced by a serious Yong Le, reminding Dong Enyu of her true identity.
If she were on duty outside, she’d probably look like this too, right?
“Stubborn,” Dong Enyu shrugged, directly opening the package to check.
Inside were two stacks of documents and a disc.
“I don’t know who your backer is, but it’s impressive that you managed to gather surveillance footage from so long ago.” Dong Enyu examined the documents, which were clearly marked with times, people, transactions, and amounts.
But they had to be destroyed.
Dong Enyu turned on the gas stove, igniting the flame with a click.
Now, she was going to burn the evidence.
“Put it down!” Yong Le gripped the gun tightly, kneeling on the ground, looking up at Dong Enyu.
Ignoring Yong Le’s warning, the woman shrugged indifferently.
She took out a report, placing it on the gas stove.
Within seconds, the document caught fire, the flames rising from below.
Finally, Dong Enyu tossed the report into the sink, turning it into a pile of ash.
Then, she took out the second one.
“Dong Enyu!!” Yong Le screamed in near-collapse, her eyes stinging from the document that had just been burned.
“No one’s stopping you, shoot,” Dong Enyu squinted her eyes, her smile making Yong Le tremble even more.
The document in her hand gradually approached the flames.
She could clearly hear Yong Le disengage the safety.
Now, with just a light pull, the bullet could very well pierce through Dong Enyu’s head or heart.
“Enough!” Yong Le’s hoarse shout, her whole body trembling, was in a dire state.
If she wasn’t about to break down, she was about to explode.
But Dong Enyu didn’t care about any of that.
After setting the document on fire, she deliberately waved it in front of Yong Le twice.
The inked words gradually blurred, the burnt paper ashes gently scattering on the ground.
Besides the smell of blood, the air was now filled with the scent of burning.
Dong Enyu squinted her eyes, tossing the document into the sink.
She leaned against the kitchen counter, lazily taking out the last disc.
“This is your last chance.” Dong Enyu threw the disc on the ground.
Yong Le’s pupils contracted, sweat mixed with blood soaking her clothes.
Her breathing became more rapid, and her aim at Dong Enyu was never steady.
“Stop! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!!” Her voice started to tremble, Yong Le had lost all composure.
She was in a panic, should she shoot? Not shoot? Kill Dong Enyu? Destroy the disc? Suddenly, the pain in her body didn’t matter.
She just wished time would stop, so she wouldn’t have to make any decisions.
Dong Enyu blinked, smiling as she mouthed two words silently: Come on.
In the next moment, she lifted her foot and stomped, crack! With a crisp sound, the disc shattered.
“Ah!!!!” The uncontrolled scream was followed by three gunshots that pierced the sky.
Several pieces of the dilapidated ceiling fell, the dust filling the room making it seem like a ruin.
The woman standing in front of the kitchen counter was unharmed.
She lazily crossed her arms, coldly watching the woman curled up on the ground.
That trembling, humble body was completely unlike Yong Le’s style.
Perhaps without her armor, the woman had a vulnerable side too.
No one is cold-blooded and heartless.
Dong Enyu lowered her gaze.
Those three gunshots had all hit the ceiling, no wonder it had fallen…
She picked up the shattered disc, casually tossing it out the window, resolving this troublesome matter.
Next, she had to take the woman back.
Dong Enyu approached Yong Le, slowly squatting down, speaking calmly, “And to think you’re the head of the sniper team.
I stood there without moving, and you still couldn’t hit me.” This remark was clearly mocking Yong Le, not for her poor marksmanship, but for not killing her? The woman who had repeatedly pushed her into the fire pit, was she actually showing mercy?
Curled up on the ground, Yong Le resembled a wounded beast, covered in blood, weak and helpless, occasionally letting out low, mournful cries.
However, in Dong Enyu’s eyes, there was no pity.
This Yong Le didn’t seem like Yong Le at all.
If it were her, she would probably bite back regardless of everything, right? Aim for the throat and bite her to death, right?
“Do you want me to teach you how to use a gun?” Dong Enyu picked up the gun from beside Yong Le, aiming at the woman’s calf and fired.
“Ah!!!” The hoarse voice could only let out a primal scream, nothing more.
The woman lying on the floor trembled violently, her calf now a bloody hole.
Dong Enyu stepped on the pool of blood, slowly standing up, her eyes devoid of warmth.
“This is better, isn’t it?” The woman calmly put on her coat, wiping the blood splatter from her cheek with a handkerchief.
“Crying and screaming is what makes you human.
Hearing you can still howl puts me at ease, but save your breath, you have a long road ahead.”
Once dressed, Dong Enyu didn’t look like the woman who had just shot and tormented Yong Le.
She smiled, placing a ‘charm’ in front of Yong Le, “The trial court will wait until you’re healed to proceed, so you can rest assured and recover.” As she pushed the door open, the woman paused, the warm sunset outside, the breeze blowing away the room’s bloody scent.
“Next time, don’t give your charm away so easily, it could cost you your life.”
Without a final glance, Dong Enyu stepped away.
Along the way, Dong Enyu felt her steps were a bit light.
Whether it was from the excitement earlier or staring at blood for too long, she felt a bit dizzy.
As she walked out of the alley, Yuan Fangzhong’s car was parked by the wall.
Dong Enyu waved to signal him, and Yuan Fangzhong directed the waiting ambulance and police cars to the scene.
The woman dragged her feet into the passenger seat.
“Senior Dong, are you okay?” Yuan Fangzhong noticed Dong Enyu had no external injuries, just a slightly pale complexion.
Dong Enyu shook her head, taking a bottle of mineral water from the glove compartment and drinking half of it.
“Is the part I asked you to handle done? What did the bank say?” Dong Enyu took off her sticky coat, adjusting the seat to lie back and rest.
Yuan Fangzhong frowned slightly.
He knew Dong Enyu was under time pressure, but jumping from one task to another seemed a bit much.
“Let’s rest today, okay? The bank won’t be able to freeze assets that quickly.” Yuan Fangzhong thoughtfully turned off the air conditioning.
Although it was hot outside, directly blowing cold air wasn’t good for the body.
“So it’s not settled yet,” Dong Enyu replied, slowly opening her eyes.
“Then let’s head back to the Police Station.
There are some things I need to discuss with Uncle Chen.” After resigning from Haijiao, her life rhythm became unrestrained, and the woman began recklessly collecting data.
She was determined to handle so many cases on her own, even the details Yuan Fangzhong heard from Chen Zheng made the man feel she was overworking herself.
“Senior!” Yuan Fangzhong raised his voice, causing the pondering Dong Enyu to look at him.
“Let’s rest today, okay?”
The flickering eyes, the neat short hair, Dong Enyu seemed to see a dirt dog wagging its tail at her…
The woman closed her eyes again, feeling as if someone was caring for her.
“Senior?” Yuan Fangzhong called out uneasily.
But he heard Dong Enyu lazily say, “You’re the one driving, don’t ask me.”
