They were seated toward the back of the auction hall, high enough up that they could see almost the entire venue at a glance.
The public seating was arranged in tiers; the farther back you went, the higher the seats were. In front of the public seats was a raised platform, with two curtains hanging down from the ceiling on either side.
The platform was about a meter high. At its center stood a single table, made of fine purple sandalwood, its surface carved with intricate patterns. There was no chair behind it—this was clearly just the auctioneer’s table.
