That day, Lin Qianwei didn’t get to eat any candied chestnuts.
Because by the time Ji Yunxiao went back to buy them, the shop had already sold out.
Ji Yunxiao originally planned to buy some raw chestnuts and make them fresh for Lin Qianwei at her place, but since Lin Qianwei had to go on a last-minute business trip, the whole thing ended up falling through.
That day, when Ji Yunxiao dropped her off at the airport, that beautiful woman looked at her intently and said gently, “I’ll make them for you when you get back.”
Ji Yunxiao smiled and said, “The candied chestnuts I make taste just as good as the ones you buy.”
Lin Qianwei didn’t show much excitement, but in reality, she was really looking forward to it.
As soon as she finished her work and rushed back, Lin Qianwei immediately messaged Ji Yunxiao.
But Ji Yunxiao was coding at Liu Zhi’s place and didn’t have time to make candied chestnuts for her.
It wasn’t until today that both of them finally had some free time.
Right before coming to see Bai Ying, Lin Qianwei even messaged her aunt, asking her to buy some raw chestnuts just in case.
Lin Qianwei thought, maybe after meeting Bai Ying, Ji Yunxiao would stick to her, then go home with her and finally make up for that missed bag of sweet, soft chestnuts.
But now, after hearing what Bai Ying said, Lin Qianwei just felt like all her anticipation had become a joke.
Ji Yunxiao noticed Lin Qianwei’s mood was off and quickly stood up, saying, “Let me explain.”
Lin Qianwei said coldly, “I’m not interested in listening.”
She might not be interested in listening, but Ji Yunxiao couldn’t just not say anything—most misunderstandings happen because things aren’t explained, and besides, her wife was always a bit tsundere; saying she wasn’t interested didn’t necessarily mean she wasn’t.
Thinking this, Ji Yunxiao grabbed Lin Qianwei’s shoulders and said in a low voice, “You have to listen.”
Lin Qianwei glared at her fiercely, her eyes shimmering, cold and angry, like a cat that’s been wronged but still arches its back defensively.
Ji Yunxiao’s heart almost melted.
She briefly explained everything that happened that day: she was in a hurry to chase a robber, so she handed the bag of candied chestnuts to Bai Ying for safekeeping.
Later, when she asked Bai Ying for it, Bai Ying said she’d left the chestnuts in the car.
Lin Qianwei listened to Ji Yunxiao’s explanation, but she still minded: “So you still gave them to her?”
Ji Yunxiao said, “Yeah, I just handed them over without thinking… Anyway, it was my fault.”
Lin Qianwei said coldly, “And then the chestnuts got lost.”
Ji Yunxiao replied, “Yeah.”
Lin Qianwei looked at Bai Ying, her gaze icy and intimidating: “Then why did Miss Bai say the chestnuts tasted good?”
Bai Ying hadn’t expected Lin Qianwei to react like this.
As far as she knew, Lin Qianwei didn’t like Ji Yunxiao at all.
She’d even sent Ji Yunxiao to the psych ward—was that what you’d call affection? That was clearly making things difficult.
But now, seeing Lin Qianwei like this, she actually seemed to care.
“Does Miss Bai not know how to speak?” Lin Qianwei’s face was cold and expressionless, her presence forceful and intimidating.
Bai Ying jumped in fright and quickly said, “Later I got in touch with the taxi driver and got the chestnuts back, so that’s how I know what they taste like…”
“I see.” Lin Qianwei sat back down, but she still felt uncomfortable inside.
She shot Ji Yunxiao a glare, clearly angry, but her bright eyes were so alluring that it was hard to stay mad.
Ji Yunxiao almost got lost in her gaze.
Ji Yunxiao quickly pulled herself together, put her hand on Lin Qianwei’s slender hand, and asked softly, “You’re not mad anymore, right?”
Lin Qianwei shook her hand off.
But even so, Ji Yunxiao still looked at her with a flattering smile, which made Bai Ying, sitting across from them, feel really uncomfortable.
She wasn’t here to watch a couple being lovey-dovey.
And with Ji Yunxiao’s looks, did she really have to act so humble? The more Bai Ying thought about it, the more unwilling she felt, and she forgot all about the pressure Lin Qianwei had just put on her.
She continued, “Anyway, I’m really grateful to you, Xiaoxiao.”
Bai Ying cupped her face and said sweetly, “I was scared that day, and Xiaoxiao stayed with me while we waited for the police.
She’s really gentle.”
Lin Qianwei clenched her fists, her jaw tight.
Ji Yunxiao pressed her fingers to her brow and ordered Bai Ying, “Shut up.
What exactly are you trying to do?”
Bai Ying’s tone was soft, “You tell me to shut up, but then you ask what I want.
Should I answer or not?”
Ji Yunxiao ignored her and turned to Lin Qianwei, “The main thing is, I was the one who caught the robber, so I figured I had to go make a statement, right? I really didn’t have any other intentions.”
Bai Ying couldn’t stand it anymore and snorted.
Lin Qianwei looked up, her gaze sharp as a blade, “What exactly does Miss Bai want?”
Bai Ying flinched.
Lin Qianwei’s aura was just too strong—she was scared, but if she didn’t say what she wanted to say, she’d feel suffocated.
“I just wanted to express my feelings,” Bai Ying said, staring straight at Ji Yunxiao and gathering her courage, “I know, Miss Ji, you don’t have any feelings for me.
You helped me chase the robber because you were doing the right thing, and you stayed with me for the police because you’re a gentle person.
You don’t like me, and you’re loyal to your relationship, so when I added you on WeChat you refused, and when I called to invite you to dinner you didn’t agree, and you even blocked my number.
I get it all, but I still wanted to see you once.
I wanted to thank you in person, and also, I really like you.”
Even Ji Yunxiao, who’d seen a lot, was a bit stunned at this point.
She looked at Lin Qianwei and said, enunciating each word, “I have a wife, and my wife is sitting right next to me.”
“I know,” Bai Ying said with a bright smile, “but your relationship isn’t that great, is it? I’m not trying to steal you away in person, I just want to say, Ji Yunxiao, if you and President Lin ever break up, remember to give me a chance, because I really like you.”
Ji Yunxiao: “…”
If this isn’t trying to steal someone away right in front of me, then what is? Ji Yunxiao was about to say something, but Lin Qianwei stood up again and said coldly, “You two take your time talking.”
Lin Qianwei was about to leave, because she felt so bitter she couldn’t stand seeing another woman look at Ji Yunxiao with such burning eyes.
But as soon as she took a step, Lin Qianwei realized something was off.
Why should she be the one to leave? Why her? Someone was confessing to Ji Yunxiao right in front of her, provoking her to this extent—was she supposed to just sit there and do nothing?
Suddenly, Lin Qianwei felt she couldn’t take it anymore.
She turned around and walked back.
Lin Qianwei walked up to Bai Ying, her aura overwhelming, “Does Miss Bai think I’m dead or something?”
Bai Ying couldn’t help but shiver.
What was going on? Wasn’t Lin Qianwei supposed to not like Ji Yunxiao?
Bai Ying wanted to say something, but as soon as she opened her mouth, she heard Lin Qianwei say offhandedly, “Miss Bai, you’re still working at that hospital, right?”
Bai Ying suddenly felt weak, “Yeah…”
Lin Qianwei sneered, “If you don’t want to work there anymore, you can just say so.
Why bother provoking me like this?”
Bai Ying said, “I didn’t…”
Lin Qianwei glanced at her and said coldly, “That hospital is funded by the Lin Group, you haven’t forgotten, have you?”
Was this a threat? Bai Ying swallowed hard.
Losing a job is something you can recover from, but if you piss off Lin Qianwei, the consequences are really unpredictable.
Only now did Bai Ying realize how scared she was.
“President Lin, I…”
Lin Qianwei pressed down on Ji Yunxiao’s shoulder, pushing her into the chair, then reached out with her slender finger and lifted Ji Yunxiao’s chin.
Lin Qianwei met Ji Yunxiao’s gaze, staring at her intently, but warned Bai Ying, “Even though we haven’t had the wedding yet, this woman is my legal wife.
She’s my rightful spouse.”
Ji Yunxiao’s heart was pounding like crazy because of her.
Lin Qianwei in front of her was sexy and charming, totally dominant and aggressive, but Ji Yunxiao’s heart was racing, and she just wanted to pin her down and have her way with her.
Looking at her beautiful wife, Ji Yunxiao’s mouth was dry, while Bai Ying across from them was already shaking, her heart pounding in fear.
She finally realized she’d been reckless.
Even if Lin Qianwei and Ji Yunxiao didn’t get along, they were still legally married.
No powerful woman would tolerate being cheated on.
Bai Ying was full of regret, thinking about how to fix things, when she saw Lin Qianwei turn to her, face expressionless, and ask, “And who told you Ji Yunxiao and I don’t get along?”
After that, Lin Qianwei cupped Ji Yunxiao’s cheeks with both hands, leaned down, and kissed her.
In that instant, the ice melted, spring bloomed, and time seemed to stop.
Ji Yunxiao never expected Lin Qianwei to do something like this, but her surprise lasted less than half a second before she got swept up in it.
Lin Qianwei’s lips were soft and sweet, and she smelled so good.
Ji Yunxiao was completely lost, closed her eyes, and wrapped her hand around the back of Lin Qianwei’s neck.
She could clearly feel Lin Qianwei tremble.
So sensitive.
Ji Yunxiao wanted to kiss her deeper, longer, but just as she was starting to taste that soft tongue and hadn’t even figured out all the flavors, Lin Qianwei pushed her away and straightened up.
Through the strands of hair falling down, Ji Yunxiao could see her beautiful, misty eyes, even the corners tinged red, breathtakingly gorgeous.
Ji Yunxiao instinctively grabbed a lock of her falling hair and kissed it, but Lin Qianwei was already standing straight.
That silky hair slipped through her fingers.
Ji Yunxiao rubbed her fingers together, full of reluctance.
When she looked at Bai Ying again, Lin Qianwei had already put her cold, distant mask back on.
Her face was all indifference as she coldly declared her territory, “See? Ji Yunxiao and I are doing just fine.”
Bai Ying could only nod.
In the end, Bai Ying left in a panic.
Ji Yunxiao watched Lin Qianwei gulping down tea one cup after another and knew this wasn’t over.
Ji Yunxiao understood very well—even if nothing happened between her and Bai Ying, Lin Qianwei could still get jealous over nothing.
What should she do?
Facing the woman she loved, Ji Yunxiao couldn’t act as smooth as usual.
She could only try to hook Lin Qianwei’s hand and coax her, “How about we kiss a little more?”
“Who wants to kiss you again!” Lin Qianwei finally exploded.
Ji Yunxiao had expected this, but still felt at a loss.
Ji Yunxiao called out, “Wife…”
Lin Qianwei shook her off, her eyes wet like she was about to cry, but her tone was fierce, “Don’t call me wife! And don’t take what just happened seriously! I was just putting on a show to save face, that’s all.
In private, you can feed whoever you want sugar-roasted chestnuts! I don’t care!”
With that, Lin Qianwei grabbed her bag and stormed out.
The driver was waiting outside.
Lin Qianwei got in the car, ready to leave.
Ji Yunxiao chased after her, only to get snapped at, “I hate you! Stay away from me!”
Lin Qianwei knew she was being unreasonable.
She knew she shouldn’t act like this.
Ji Yunxiao hadn’t done anything wrong, she was just being a good person and helping out.
Ji Yunxiao hadn’t even given Bai Ying the slightest hope.
But Lin Qianwei still felt so wronged and angry.
Why did Ji Yunxiao have to be so attractive?
Even after venting her anger at Ji Yunxiao, Lin Qianwei still didn’t feel better.
She was still upset.
When she got home and saw that bag of raw chestnuts, she remembered what Bai Ying had said.
“I just wanted to thank Miss Ji for giving me that bag of sugar-roasted chestnuts.
They really were fragrant and sweet.”
Lin Qianwei understood that Ji Yunxiao hadn’t meant to give the chestnuts to Bai Ying, she’d just handed them over without thinking.
Lin Qianwei got it.
But so what?
The sugar-roasted chestnuts she’d promised to buy for her, the ones she’d promised to peel for her, ended up in another woman’s mouth after all.
The more Lin Qianwei thought about it, the angrier she got, so mad she could explode.
She picked up the bag of raw chestnuts and threw the whole thing into the trash, then, on the verge of tears and breaking down, said, “I’m never eating sugar-roasted chestnuts again! Never again!”
