In early March, the spring breeze in the south was coaxing out new buds. In the side courtyard of a wealthy household, peach blossoms had opened fresh and full, spilling over the top of the wall.
It had drizzled the night before, and raindrops still clung to the petals. When the breeze passed, the occasional droplet would fall on the pedestrians below.
With a soft rustle, the peach branch that jutted beyond the wall suddenly shook, sending a flurry of petals fluttering to the ground.
