Back at the dorm, Bai Ling still had to put in a lot of effort to wake up the silly girl who slept like a dead pig.
With a face full of grievance, she got her up, helped her wash up, and they went to have breakfast together.
After finishing their meal, the two of them headed to the mission board, only to find Xu Wenjing already waiting there.
Maybe out of a sense of responsibility, Xu Wenjing was still planning to show these two newbies how to submit a mission.
She couldn’t just leave them hanging; she’d feel bad about it.
As the saying goes, if you’re going to help someone, help them all the way.
Xu Wenjing wasn’t that petty, after all.
“Hey! Morning!” Lin Qiufeng spotted Xu Wenjing waiting there and walked over, greeting her with a big smile.
Little did she know, Xu Wenjing felt annoyed just looking at her.
This girl was really infuriating.
“Not bad,” Xu Wenjing replied coolly, not about to give Lin Qiufeng a friendly face.
“Morning!” Bai Ling greeted as well.
“Mm, morning, Xiao Ling!” Xu Wenjing responded to Bai Ling with a smile, a complete 180 from how she treated Lin Qiufeng.
“Hey, hey, hey! That’s way too much of a difference! You’re totally playing favorites! I protest!” Lin Qiufeng realized Xu Wenjing’s attitude toward Bai Ling was worlds apart from how she treated her.
“Protest denied.” Xu Wenjing shot back, crushing Lin Qiufeng’s hopes without hesitation.
“Ahhh, Xiao Ling, she’s bullying me again!” Lin Qiufeng ran over and snuggled into Bai Ling’s arms, for some reason finding them so soft and comfortable.
Ever since last night, she’d gotten hooked on the feeling.
“Alright, alright, she’s just joking.” Bai Ling coaxed her like a child, treating her like a kid.
Honestly, Bai Ling wondered if she sold her off, would this girl even help count the money?
Xu Wenjing saw this sweet scene and decided not to bother anymore, silently thinking, Hmph, little girl, I won’t stoop to your level.
“Let’s go, I’ll show you how to submit a mission.”
“Okay, let’s go!” This time it was Bai Ling who answered, while Lin Qiufeng didn’t even want to let go of Bai Ling’s arms.
“Come on, let go, it’s hard to walk like this.” Bai Ling patted Lin Qiufeng’s head indulgently.
Honestly, it felt pretty nice, so she patted a few more times.
“Emmm.” After dawdling for a bit, Lin Qiufeng sensibly let go.
She knew this wasn’t going to work, so she figured she’d just snuggle a bit longer next time to make up for it.
“Submitting a mission is actually pretty simple.
You just need to bring back the key item from the mission target.
If the mission specifies certain items, then you have to collect those.
Then you can go to the front desk to exchange for the mission reward,” Xu Wenjing explained as she led them inside.
“Oh, oh!” Lin Qiufeng was back to her shameless self.
The three of them arrived at the mission board’s front desk, where a girl was sitting.
“Hello, is there anything I can help you with?” the girl asked with a professional smile.
“Hi, we’re here to submit a mission!” Xu Wenjing replied.
“Alright, please show me the name of the mission first.”
“C-rank mission, hunt a juvenile Saber-toothed Bear.”
“Okay, that’s ten silver coins in total.”
“We completed the mission with extra results.”
“!!!” The front desk girl was clearly surprised.
While there were cases of people overachieving, it wasn’t common, and she didn’t expect these three girls to pull it off.
To overachieve on a mission, you had to exceed the mission’s difficulty.
For example, Xu Wenjing’s group had a C-rank mission to hunt a juvenile Saber-toothed Bear, but they killed an adolescent one.
That was more like a B-rank mission, but since there wasn’t a B-rank Saber-toothed Bear mission on the board, it just counted as overachieving.
If there had been, Xu Wenjing could have claimed the higher reward.
At the academy’s mission board, you didn’t need to register to take a mission.
Anyone could do any posted mission, and once you brought back the target item, you could claim the corresponding money or credits.
Usually, only B-rank or higher missions awarded credits; anything below B-rank didn’t.
Although surprised, the front desk girl was clearly experienced and didn’t lose her composure.
“Then, please show me the mission target.” Xu Wenjing handed over the large tooth she’d taken from the Saber-toothed Bear.
The girl examined it and then identified it: “This is indeed the tooth of an adolescent Saber-toothed Bear, just barely reached adolescence.”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“In that case, I can give you an extra ten silver coins, for a total of twenty.
Would you like to exchange?”
“Yeah, let’s do it,” Xu Wenjing said casually.
That was a pretty good price.
“Here you go, twenty silver coins.
Please keep them safe.”
After getting the coins, Xu Wenjing said to the others, “Since we signed up together, let’s split it evenly!”
“That’s not right! This is yours, we barely did anything.” Lin Qiufeng might be careless sometimes, but she wasn’t greedy about this stuff.
She knew what she deserved and what she didn’t.
“Yeah, it’s yours.
We didn’t help, so you earned it.” Bai Ling agreed.
She understood you shouldn’t take what you didn’t earn, and besides, she didn’t need the money.
“Uh…” Xu Wenjing suddenly realized these two weren’t so annoying after all.
At least they’d done something to make her happy.
“I don’t know about this…” Xu Wenjing was still a bit hesitant.
“It’s fine.
We didn’t help at all.
You killed the Saber-toothed Bear by yourself, so the reward should be yours.
Otherwise, we’d feel bad,” Lin Qiufeng finally said something sensible.
“In that case, alright, I won’t argue.” After hesitating a bit more, Xu Wenjing accepted their share.
In the center of a palace, a figure knelt on one knee and bowed his head.
“My lord, everything is ready.
We just have to wait for that day a month from now, and then we can act.”
In front of him was only a chair.
At first, it was empty, but soon after he finished speaking, a figure wrapped entirely in a black robe slowly appeared on the chair, as if he’d always been there, maintaining a certain presence.
The person kneeling below didn’t dare speak since the figure on the throne said nothing, so he just waited.
“Mm, I know.
You may go.”
“Yes!”
