There were also some commoners who awakened, but compared to the nobles, it was the opposite.
There were two reasons for this: first, it was rare for commoners to have magic, and those who did usually joined the magic army, where they’d get support from the state, so technically they weren’t really commoners anymore—they were a step above.
Second, they didn’t have better inheritance, and a lot of it depended on genetics.

She walked up to the crystal ball, followed the steps Teacher Zitong had explained, put her hand on the crystal ball, and, too nervous to watch, she just closed her eyes, afraid she’d fail the test.
After waiting for a bit, a bead of cold sweat slid down Lin Qiufeng’s temple from her pretty face because of her nerves.
As a green light slowly gathered inside the crystal ball and then stopped at about three-quarters of the way up, Teacher Zitong’s slightly surprised voice came: “Hmm, not bad, wood element magic, awakening level B.
Looks like we’ve found a real gem.”
Hearing Teacher Zitong’s surprised words, Lin Qiufeng opened her eyes in a daze, staring at Teacher Zitong in disbelief.
Noticing Lin Qiufeng’s gaze, Teacher Zitong couldn’t help but laugh.
“What? Stunned?”
“No, teacher, what did you just say?” Lin Qiufeng was still totally confused.
Seeing Lin Qiufeng still in that state, Zitong calmly repeated, “Hmm? I said wood element magic, awakening level B.
What’s wrong? Is there a problem?” After all, she’d seen this kind of thing before.
The teacher might have been calm, but the students below definitely weren’t.
This was a B level! She just awakened and it’s already B level! How could anyone stay calm? And they all heard it loud and clear—wood element magic.
That wasn’t the key point, though.
The key was the awakening level was B.
Among the students who had just awakened, the highest was only C, and now suddenly there was a B.
They’d thought C was already top tier, but this result was totally unexpected.
Now, when the other students looked at Lin Qiufeng again, they didn’t just see her as a lively girl anymore.
For most of the students who had awakened, she was a genius, someone to look up to.
As for the students who hadn’t awakened yet (they were waiting off to the side for their turn), they looked at the girl on stage like she was a hero.
Some of them even wished they could take her home as their wife, but that was just a fantasy—they wouldn’t dare actually do anything about it, not even if you gave them a hundred times the courage.
But the one who was the most flustered was Lin Qiufeng herself.
When she heard Teacher Zitong repeat the test result, she snapped out of her daze.

But then she smiled a little.

But the girl didn’t seem to notice Bai Ling’s look at all, just cheered, “Oh oh! Good luck!”
“Yeah, but can you let go of me first?” Bai Ling looked at her calmly, with no expression, just like a normal conversation.
But in her mind, she added a label to this girl: silly! Yeah, from now on, she’d call her silly girl.
“Huh?” Lin Qiufeng finally let go of Bai Ling’s waist a bit awkwardly, a faint blush appearing on her cheeks.
Man, that was embarrassing.
When Bai Ling saw the blush flash across Lin Qiufeng’s face, she smiled a little.
“It’s my turn, I’ll be back in a bit.” She didn’t look at the now-head-down Lin Qiufeng and walked straight toward Zitong.
Bai Ling walked lightly toward the podium, feeling relaxed and not nervous at all.
Even if she failed the test, she could still use all kinds of abilities from her previous life.
She was confident in those abilities—at least she wouldn’t be weaker than an SS-level mage in this world.

I’ve been writing this book totally on the fly, there’s no outline or anything like that, so after the school arc is done, I’ll probably move on to the main plot.
But before that, I can’t guarantee when I’ll update, because I’m working on the outline for the main story.
Plus, I might have to travel for work soon, and once I’m there, updates will be even less certain.
So it feels like this book might get dropped.
After all, it’s my first time writing, I’m a total newbie, and there’s no expert guiding me—I’m just writing by feel, so my writing is pretty rough.
Anyway, I won’t say much more, but I really like this feeling, so I’ll try my best not to drop it.
