The next morning, Bai Ling got up early.
There were three reasons: first, her habit of waking up early, also known as her biological clock; second, this wasn’t home, and the bed didn’t feel the same, so she didn’t sleep well; third, today was her first day at school, so she was a little excited, plus Zitong had told her yesterday to find her early in the morning.
Because of these three reasons, Bai Ling was up at the crack of dawn.
The only difference was, there was no so-called cherry blossom tree for her to sit under and ponder life alone.
After getting up, Bai Ling quickly washed up and got dressed.
Seeing that it was still early and there was plenty of time before her meeting with Zitong, she got bored and decided to look for something to eat.
She’d thought about making breakfast herself, but unfortunately, the dorm didn’t have a kitchen.
So she decided to head out and find something to eat to fill her not-so-big stomach.
Just as she was about to leave, she heard a cute mumble from behind.
“Mmm… don’t run, chicken leg.”
Bai Ling turned to look at Lin Qiufeng on the bed and thought, ‘How did I forget about her? Should I wake her up?’ Watching Lin Qiufeng reach out as if trying to hug something, and seeing her rather unladylike sleeping posture, Bai Ling pursed her lips.
“Forget it, I’ll just bring her something back.”
She would never make that face in front of others—only when she was alone or with Bai Ting would she show that kind of expression.
After thinking for a moment, she walked over to Lin Qiufeng’s bed.
Seeing her sprawled out in all directions, Bai Ling reached out her slightly flushed, soft little hand—still pink from just waking up—and helped her lie down properly, then tucked her in again.
Satisfied, she nodded, tiptoed out, and quietly closed the door behind her.
Leaving the dorm building, Bai Ling headed straight for the building behind, simply because that was the cafeteria.
If you’re wondering how Bai Ling knew where the cafeteria was, it goes back to last night.
She and Lin Qiufeng had been chatting away—well, Lin Qiufeng was the one chatting excitedly, while Bai Ling just responded now and then, mostly listening to Lin Qiufeng’s endless chatter.
Halfway through, her stomach started protesting, so Lin Qiufeng dragged her to the cafeteria to buy some snacks.
The cafeteria provided three meals a day for the students, and there was also a snack bar for those who got hungry outside of meal times.
That’s how Bai Ling knew where the cafeteria was.
Now, she went to the snack bar to buy some snacks to take back.
She didn’t go to the main cafeteria because it wasn’t mealtime yet.
The cafeteria usually opened for breakfast at eight sharp, and it was only a little after six, so there was nothing to eat yet.
With no other choice, Bai Ling went to the snack bar to fill her stomach.
Back at home, breakfast would be ready as soon as she woke up, with maids waiting for her.
But this wasn’t the Bai family—there were no maids to cook for her.
Bai Ling had memories from her previous life, so cooking wasn’t a problem for her.
As for why she never cooked at the Bai family? That was because she was lazy—if she didn’t have to do it herself, she wouldn’t.
If she could be lazy, she would.
Unlike the cafeteria, which opened at set times, the snack bar was open twenty-four hours a day.
At the snack bar, Bai Ling bought two kinds of bread and two bottles of milk.
The bread was made with meat from plant-type magical beasts, making it tender, tasty, and fragrant.
The milk was also from magical beasts.
These were all low-level magical beasts—high-level ones were too hard for most people to handle, and food made from them was too expensive for most to afford.
Walking out of the snack bar, Bai Ling saw a few students wandering around the campus.
Along the way, everyone she saw was wearing the academy’s unique uniform.
Back at the dorm, Bai Ling tiptoed in, looking like a kid sneaking home after doing something wrong, afraid of being scolded by her parents.
It was pretty funny, but it also showed how careful she was—she didn’t want to disturb Lin Qiufeng’s sleep.
She didn’t know if Lin Qiufeng was up yet, but judging by her mumbling earlier, she probably wasn’t.
Even so, Bai Ling made sure not to make too much noise.
Sure enough, when she came in, Lin Qiufeng was still lying in bed.
But the blanket Bai Ling had tucked her in with before leaving was already kicked off again.
Bai Ling helplessly went over and tucked her in again.
Looking at her, Bai Ling just thought, she’s still just a kid—kicking off the blanket is totally normal! After tucking her in, Bai Ling left her alone and went to the window to eat breakfast while looking outside.
By the time she finished breakfast, it was almost seven o’clock, so Bai Ling got ready to go find Zitong.
Seeing Lin Qiufeng still asleep, Bai Ling put her breakfast on the table and used magic to write a few lines on the table: “This is your breakfast, from Bai Ling!”
Leaving the dorm, Bai Ling went to the office at the end of the second floor of the teaching building, just like Zitong had told her yesterday.
Knock, knock, knock.
Zitong’s voice came from inside.
“Come in!”
Bai Ling walked in and saw Zitong sitting at her desk, busy with something, not even looking up.
“Good morning, Teacher Zitong.
I’m here!” Bai Ling gave a slight bow.
“Oh! It’s Xiaoling.
Good morning!” Zitong only looked up when she heard Bai Ling’s voice.
“Okay, since you’re here, let’s get started.
I’ll get something for you.” Zitong stood up, walked to a cabinet, rummaged around, and came back to Bai Ling with a bag.
“Thank you, teacher.” Bai Ling accepted, but instead of sitting down, she kept watching Zitong, curious about why she’d been called here.
Standing next to Bai Ling, Zitong handed her the bag.
Bai Ling took it and asked, “Teacher, what’s this?”
“This is your uniform and your ID card.
The ID card has a lot of functions—you’ll find out more later.
The most basic thing is that the card contains study points, which you can use to exchange for things in the academy’s library or weapon hall.
You get study points by completing tasks assigned by the academy.
That’s just the basics.
The ID card can also be used outside the campus, but I won’t go into all the details now.”
Zitong continued, “That’s about it.
Go back and change into your uniform, then come find me.
I’ll take you to your class.
Since you missed yesterday morning, you don’t know where your class is, so I’ll take you there.”
“Okay, teacher.
I’ll go now.” Bai Ling’s soft, gentle voice made even Zitong, who was also a woman, a little envious.
She even muttered to herself, “With a voice like that, who knows how many boys she’ll charm.
Looks like the class won’t be peaceful in the future!” But that was just a passing thought.
“Alright, go ahead!” Bai Ling bowed again and walked out of Zitong’s office.
Back at the dorm, she was surprised to see Lin Qiufeng still asleep.
Checking the time, Bai Ling decided she had to wake her up, or they’d be late.
At this hour, if she didn’t get up, it’d be dangerous.
Bai Ling walked over and gently shook Lin Qiufeng.
“Qiufeng, wake up, we’re going to be late.”
“Mmm… no, let me sleep a bit longer.” Lin Qiufeng just barely opened her eyes, then went right back to sleep.
“If you don’t get up now, we really will be late!” Bai Ling said again.
This time, Lin Qiufeng didn’t even respond, just kept sleeping.
With no other choice, Bai Ling had to use her “ultimate move.” She reached out with both hands—one pinching Lin Qiufeng’s nose, the other covering her mouth.
And then… well, then… At first, Lin Qiufeng didn’t react.
After a while, she frowned, then her face started turning red from holding her breath.
Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore, shoved Bai Ling’s hands away, and sat up, gasping for air.
“You—you trying to kill me? Rob me and take my life?” Lin Qiufeng was so startled by Bai Ling’s move that she was still a little shaken, panting as she spoke.
“Nothing, just wanted to wake you up.” Bai Ling pointed at the alarm clock.
Lin Qiufeng followed Bai Ling’s finger.
She looked—and was shocked.
“Ah! How is it this late already?” With that, she did a perfect kip-up and jumped out of bed.
Then came a whole series of clattering sounds as she got ready.
By the time Lin Qiufeng was done, Bai Ling had already changed into the uniform Zitong had given her.
“I already brought you breakfast—it’s on the table.
It might be cold, but it should still be edible.” Bai Ling smiled as she watched Lin Qiufeng rushing around.
“Huh? You bought breakfast for me? Thanks so much!” Hearing that, Lin Qiufeng was a little excited, and a warm feeling rose in her heart.
“It’s nothing, don’t mention it.”
“Mm-hmm!” Lin Qiufeng gave Bai Ling a sweet smile, completely forgetting how Bai Ling had just treated her.
“Don’t rush, eat slowly, don’t choke.
There’s milk next to you.” Bai Ling watched her wolf down the food, and suddenly a sense of caring welled up inside her, making her unconsciously radiate a feminine glow.
A few minutes later, Lin Qiufeng had already finished off all the food Bai Ling brought.
When Lin Qiufeng finished the last bit of milk, Bai Ling finally spoke.
“Since you’re done eating, I’ll go see the teacher now.”
“Okay.
I’m getting ready for class too, let’s go together!” With that, Lin Qiufeng grabbed Bai Ling’s small hand and walked out of the dorm.
“Yeah!”
