After coming out, Zitong muttered quietly, “Since she’s also his daughter, I guess she won’t be any worse.
To think she’d be assigned to my class—heh, I really want to see for myself!” With that, she walked off in the direction where Bai Ling and her mother had just gone.
When she got downstairs, she saw the two of them horsing around together, which made Teacher Zitong feel pretty awkward.
So she cleared her throat a couple of times.
Watching the two slowly stop what they were doing, Zitong spoke up a bit awkwardly, “Hello, I’m Zitong, a teacher at this academy.”
Yue Xin, seeing this, actually greeted her politely for once.
“Hello, teacher!”
“You must be Bai Mo’s wife, Yue Xin, and his daughter, Bai Ling?” Zitong asked with a hint of doubt.
Even though she already knew who they were, she still asked anyway.
“Yes, we are,” Yue Xin replied, still calm and composed.
“Hello, I’m Teacher Zitong.
Principal Li asked me to show Bai Ling around the campus.
And starting today, I’ll be her magic advisor.” Zitong was still talking to Yue Xin, and it felt a bit like a battle between two women.
“Hello, advisor.
In that case, I’ll leave my daughter in your care.” Yue Xin greeted her again, this time calling her “advisor” instead of “teacher,” since Zitong hadn’t mentioned she was Bai Ling’s advisor before.
The first greeting was for the teacher, this one was for the advisor.
After speaking, Yue Xin gave Bai Ling a look, and Bai Ling nodded in understanding.
Bai Ling stepped forward and bowed slightly.
“Hello, advisor!”
Zitong stared at Bai Ling for a while, as if she was sizing her up.
Only when Bai Ling started to feel a bit embarrassed did Zitong finally say, “Mm, hello.
From now on, I’ll be your magic advisor.
If you need anything, you can come to me.
I look forward to working with you, Xiao Ling.” She finished with a gentle smile.
But to Bai Ling, that smile felt a little creepy.
“Um, okay, I look forward to working with you too!” Bai Ling replied weakly, sounding a bit unsure of herself.
After greeting Bai Ling, Zitong turned to Yue Xin again.
“Bai Ling’s dorm is behind that teaching building over there, room 801.
You can take her to look around the campus first.” As she spoke, Zitong pointed to the tallest building on the other side.
“Remember to come find me at seven tomorrow morning.
I’ll be in the innermost office on the second floor of this teaching building.” This was clearly directed at Bai Ling, and she even threw her a flirty wink.
“Oh.” Bai Ling blushed a little at the wink.
Having grown up on the edge of the forest, she’d rarely interacted with women, and it was the same in her previous life, so her resistance to women was pretty low.
Now she was a bit at a loss.
Zitong thought Bai Ling’s shy look was adorable, but also kind of funny.
She’d only winked at her, so why was Bai Ling acting all bashful? This just made Zitong even more curious about her.
But for now, she decided to leave some time for the mother and daughter, so she didn’t say anything else.
She covered her mouth and laughed softly, then walked past Bai Ling.
As she passed, she gave Bai Ling a meaningful look, though Bai Ling didn’t notice.
Only after Zitong’s figure disappeared from view did Bai Ling look away.
Yue Xin, who had been focused on Bai Ling the whole time, hadn’t paid any attention to Zitong.
When Bai Ling finally looked back, Yue Xin smiled at her.
“Let’s go, let’s check out your dorm first, then walk around the campus.”
“Mm!” The two of them headed toward the dorm, not even thinking about the already forgotten Bai Mo.
At that moment, Bai Mo was strolling leisurely around the academy, admiring the scenery.
He had no intention of looking for Yue Xin or Bai Ling.
In his words, “It’s not like people can get lost in this place.” His thinking wasn’t much different from Yue Xin’s.
Besides, with their strength, nothing major was likely to happen.
When Bai Ling and Yue Xin had just left the teaching building, Bai Mo finally strolled over.
He looked up at the top floor of the building, his thoughts drifting.
He remembered the old leader who had helped him so much, and now that leader was waiting for him in the innermost room on that floor.
He thought back on the past.
Even though they’d had a superior-subordinate relationship, they’d fought on the battlefield together, killed enemies, and stood side by side for years.
That kind of camaraderie made them feel more like brothers than anything else, not just superior and subordinate.
He stood downstairs, staring at the innermost room for a long time before finally smiling.
“Guess it’s time to go see him.” With that, he walked into the building and headed straight for the room at the end of the top floor, knocking on the door.
Of course, Bai Mo knew Li Yue was already waiting for him inside, but he knocked out of respect for his elder.
Besides, Li Yue was much stronger and older than Bai Mo.
Inside, Li Yue already knew Bai Mo had arrived.
At their level, any S-class mage could extend their spiritual sense, kind of like x-ray vision, adjusting the range based on their strength.
So the moment Bai Mo entered the academy, Li Yue had already noticed him—along with Yue Xin and Bai Ling.
“You’re not a stranger, and the door’s not even locked,” Li Yue’s voice came from inside, sounding a bit exasperated.
He even rolled his eyes at Bai Mo, though Bai Mo couldn’t see it yet.
Bai Mo answered and walked in.
The first thing he saw was Li Yue’s face, half-smiling, half-serious.
Looking at that familiar face, Bai Mo couldn’t help but feel a surge of emotion.
Li Yue had once been a handsome young man, but now there were hints of gray in his hair and more wrinkles on his cheeks.
Time hadn’t spared him, even as an S-class mage.
He’d lost some of his old sharpness, but gained a gentler air; less of the youthful good looks, more of a deep, thoughtful presence.
“Chief Li, how have you been?” Bai Mo greeted him with a smile, but inside he sighed, ‘Ah, time really waits for no one.
It’s taken so much of his youth.
Such a good man, and still not married—what a shame.’
“Hahaha! Good! And not so good!” Li Yue laughed, just like he always had, which put Bai Mo a little at ease.
But the way Li Yue said it left him a bit confused.
“What do you mean?” Bai Mo asked, curious.
“Good, because life is easy now.
Watching all these young people full of energy every day is really nice.
Not so good because…” He glanced sideways at Bai Mo before continuing, “Because you haven’t come to visit me in so long.” With that, Li Yue turned his head away in a huff, looking for all the world like a sulky little wife.
If the other teachers saw this, their jaws would drop.
Is this really our principal? Where’s the dignity?
“Uh…” Bai Mo scratched his head awkwardly.
“Well, I’m here to see you now, aren’t I?”
“Oh? Right! You’re here now.
But if it weren’t for your daughter, I bet you’d never have come at all!” Li Yue was in a playful mood, having just messed with Yue Xin, and now he was ready to mess with Bai Mo too.
“Uh, well…” Bai Mo was at a loss.
Why wouldn’t he let this go?
“Hey, what’s wrong? Cat got your tongue?” Li Yue pressed.
“I’ve just been busy, you know.
No time!” Bai Mo made up an excuse, but even he knew it was a terrible lie.
Li Yue wasn’t stupid—he wouldn’t be the boss if he was.
While Bai Mo was still flustered, Li Yue just went along with his excuse.
“Oh, really? And what’s so important that you can’t come see me?”
“Uh…”
Seeing this, Li Yue continued, “Come on, come in, let’s have a good talk about why you haven’t visited me in so long.” And with that, he slung an arm around Bai Mo’s shoulders and “invited” him into the principal’s office.
