Happy times always pass quickly.
By the time Fia finished picking out her magic, it was already afternoon.
Besides the essential life magic like “Clean,”
“Light,” and “Water Breathing,” Fia also got her wish and picked up the “Mana Vision,”
“Ice Bullet,” and “Torrent” spells she’d wanted to learn before.
Unfortunately, since the Milcandis Holy Nation is a theocracy, people here prefer faith-based magic over traditional magic.
Because of that, the Mage Association in Aurora City is dirt poor and can’t afford to keep any powerful spells, which crushed Fia’s dream of expanding her magic library and learning forbidden spells.
Still, Fia managed to get a few other things.
For example, there’s “Mental Shock,” which can take someone out of a fight without actually hurting them, and “Basic Water Healing,” which can heal minor wounds.
The most valuable thing she got this time, though, was “Flight.” Once you learn flight magic, you’re no longer stuck on the ground and can soar freely through the sky.
It’s worth mentioning that only “Mana Vision” and “Torrent” were bought as magic scrolls and magic crystals.
The rest were just magic knowledge written in spellbooks.
That means Fia has to learn the incantations first before she can try to master them.
It might be a bit of a hassle, but if there’s one thing Fia isn’t afraid of, it’s learning ready-made knowledge.
Besides that, Fia also took a liking to a magic item called the “Spatial Backpack.” She’d never understood before how Claire and Anastasia could just pull a bunch of stuff out of nowhere, but after reading the description for the “Spatial Backpack,” she realized that magic in this world can create subspaces to store things for a long time.
The “Spatial Backpack” is basically a tool that creates a subspace.
Right now, Fia and Claire were standing in an underground space built from blue stone blocks.
The underground hall was pretty spacious—about the size of two basketball courts put together.
Thanks to the big magic crystals set into the walls and ceiling for lighting, it wasn’t dark at all.
This was the underground testing ground owned by the Mage Association.
Normally, outsiders weren’t allowed in the testing ground, but since their transaction was worth fifty gold coins—a huge sum for the Aurora City Mage Association—the young staff member was so happy when Claire asked to use the lab that he agreed right away, practically dancing with joy.
Claire’s voice echoed through the underground space.
“Let’s start with the magic scrolls.
According to Fia, as long as you use a magic crystal, you can learn the spell stored inside.
So a magic scroll, which works the same way, should do the trick too.”
Magic scrolls are also tools that store spells.
The difference is that magic crystals need mana to activate, while anyone can use a magic scroll—just open it or tear it in half, and the spell will cast itself.
Claire handed the Spatial Backpack, which held the spellbooks and scrolls, over to Fia.
Even though it’s called a “backpack,” it’s really more like a “pouch.” The Spatial Backpack is only about the size of a regular leather pouch, and it doesn’t feel heavy at all hanging from your waist.
Claire probably wanted Fia to get used to using the Spatial Backpack.
Following the instructions in the spellbook, Fia poured mana into the Spatial Backpack and reached inside.
From Fia’s perspective, her hand seemed to disappear completely when she put it in the pouch, but she could still feel it, and even touch the edges of the spellbooks inside.
It was just like grabbing something from a normal bag.
It really was a magical experience.
Fia took out the magic scroll sealed with “Mana Vision” and unrolled it.
Since she already had experience using magic crystals, this time she jumped straight into the simulation screen brought on by “Super Calculation,” and used “Mana Vision” just like the information in her mind described.
A dreamlike, fantastical scene appeared before her eyes.
The air, which had been clear and colorless, now looked like someone had splashed paint all over it.
All sorts of colors mixed together, but didn’t blend—they floated in the air like glowing ribbons.
Anastasia had explained in her magic theory lessons that different elemental magic shows up as different colors.
For example, fire magic is usually orange-red, while water and wind magic are blue and green.
The color of the magic is basically the color of the element.
When Fia reached out to grab the colored air, the elements didn’t run away or resist.
Even when she brought two opposing elements together, nothing happened.
It was even more beautiful than the wonders of the universe.
Not beautiful in a visual sense, but because it was full of hope.
If her own world had these elements, and she could see them too, maybe she could reverse entropy and change the hopeless end.
Magic offered a new kind of energy, something that could create something from nothing—huh? A sudden flash of regret in her mind made Fia’s eyes go wide.
What was that thought just now…? No, she was probably just overthinking it.
She thought about it for a second but couldn’t figure it out, so she quickly pushed the thought aside.
Keeping “Mana Vision” active, she turned to look at Claire.
