The scenery around her blurred backwards as Fia blinked and appeared above the cathedral.
Because deafening booms were coming from both the city gate and the plaza, the space in front of the cathedral—one of the few places not yet hit by disaster—was jammed with people. They didn’t know exactly what had happened, but the flames at the gate and the distant screams told them enough. Some had run here to seek sanctuary, others were fleeing in the opposite direction from the burning gate. The streets were a mess.
