With that kind of chanting and the mob mentality kicking in, the clueless spectators were easily misled. They started thinking Emilia and Cain were childhood sweethearts madly in love, a destined couple who’d be defying the heavens if they *didn’t* end up together—so of course they joined in the shouting.
And sure enough, the effect was obvious. The cries had already spread to people who had nothing to do with any of this. Those onlookers were just there for the drama...
