Start the Watanare light novels with Volume 1, then read the numbered books in order. Seven Seas publishes the series in English as There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless… Its catalogue has eight numbered light novels, a separate manga adaptation, and two additional story collections.
The first collection, More Stories to Love!, has a planned early digital release on 19 November 2026. The publisher details were checked on 5 November 2026.
A friendship with two different expectations
Amaori Renako wants a fresh start at high school after a lonely middle-school life. She hopes to become more outgoing and make friends. Her new connection with Oduka Mai seems to give her exactly that chance.
Mai is a confident fashion model. She also wants a romantic relationship. Renako wants to protect their friendship, while Mai tries to persuade her to become her girlfriend. This disagreement drives the opening of the series.
Teren Mikami writes the novels, with illustrations by Eku Takeshima. Seven Seas lists them as Yuri, romance, comedy, and slice of life. This guide covers the published descriptions and editions, without a review of the complete story or its ending.
Choose the light novel edition
Look for “(Light Novel) Vol. 1” in the book title. The official Volume 1 listing gives the English print ISBN as 9781685796266. It lists 264 pages and a print release date of 30 May 2023.
The manga has its own numbered volumes. Check the format each time you buy: a manga Volume 2 and a light novel Volume 2 are different books. Matching numbers alone do not establish the same point in the story.
If you want help choosing a format, our guide to Yuri light novels, manga, and anime explains how each presents a story.
Follow the eight numbered novels
Read the main novels in this order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, then 8. The Seven Seas series page lists all eight English volumes. Volume 8 has a print release date of 18 August 2026 and an early digital date of 23 July 2026.
Stock and digital access can still vary by shop and region. Use the publisher’s links to check your preferred format.
If you come from the manga or anime, our recommendation is to begin with the first novel. Avoid later volume descriptions if you want to keep new relationships and plot events a surprise.
Where More Stories to Love! fits
More Stories to Love! collects additional moments with Renako and her friends. Its description assumes that her social and romantic life has already developed. We suggest reading the numbered novels first, then this collection. That is our suggested order; the publisher does not give a required starting point on its listing.
- Early digital edition: planned for 19 November 2026.
- Print edition: planned for 8 December 2026, with ISBN 9798898636876.
Both dates are still ahead as of this guide’s date and can change. The catalogue also lists Even More Stories to Love! for 8 June 2027. Keep these separate titles distinct from the numbered novels when you order.
Seven Seas rates the series Older Teen (15+). If a particular relationship theme is a concern, use our Yuri content-warning guide to check it without asking for the ending.
