Light slipped through the window, illuminating the walls and ceiling and throwing every mottled stain into sharp relief.
It was an ordinary dwelling. Years of smoke and heat had blackened the wall beside the stove, while gray and black spots covered the rest of the walls. They were traces left by sweaty, dirt-caked hands rubbing against the surface. Normally, they would have been inconspicuous, but after years without cleaning, dust had caked onto them in the dark, damp air, and mold had begun to grow.
With the owner so rarely bothering to maintain the place, it was only natural...
