Jiang Yanxin squinted her eyes slightly, thinking happily about what would happen after she won over Chen Wan.
Chen Wan noticed that Jiang Yanxin was no longer speaking or looking at her, and she finally breathed a sigh of relief, her heartbeat gradually returning to its normal pace.
Perhaps it was just her imagination, but Chen Wan thought she smelled a faint grape scent from Jiang Yanxin. In her previous life, she quite liked eating grapes, but since coming to this world, she hadn’t had any fruit, let alone grapes. Unable to resist, she leaned in a bit closer to take a few more sniffs.
Chen Wan was gradually relaxing, her mind no longer feeling like mush. She suddenly realized she shouldn’t be sleeping in the middle. Last night, when she fell asleep, it was clearly Yang Yang who was in the middle.
Knowing that Jiang Yanxin was just resting her eyes, Chen Wan couldn’t help but ask what was on her mind: “Yanxin, wasn’t I sleeping on the inside yesterday? How did Yang Yang end up sleeping inside?”
Jiang Yanxin opened her eyes slightly, raised an eyebrow while lying in Chen Wan’s arms, and said, “Want to know?”
Chen Wan felt she shouldn’t have asked. Jiang Yanxin was finally being quiet for a moment, and she just had to start a conversation. Now she felt she was in danger again.
Seeing Jiang Yanxin still looking at her, Chen Wan nodded, indicating she wanted to know.
Jiang Yanxin, lying in Chen Wan’s arms, looked at Chen Wan’s expression with interest and chuckled, “If you want to know, call me ‘wife’ first.”
Chen Wan’s ears turned red. She knew it wouldn’t be that simple! But since Jiang Yanxin had said so, it wouldn’t be appropriate not to call her that. Chen Wan, with red ears, slowly said, “Wife, I want to know.”
Seeing that Chen Wan really called her that, Jiang Yanxin’s eyes lit up. She gently rubbed her fingers against Chen Wan’s neck, making Chen Wan feel ticklish. “Good girl, if you want to know, I’ll tell you. Of course, it’s because you don’t sleep well. You rolled over Yang Yang in your sleep and ended up holding me while you slept.”
Although Chen Wan was shy and her neck was tickled by Jiang Yanxin, she was much better than before. At least she could think. She was so proper; she wasn’t the type to hold someone else while sleeping!
“Come on, only Yang Yang would believe that excuse.” Clearly, Chen Wan didn’t believe Jiang Yanxin’s words.
Jiang Yanxin buried her face in Chen Wan’s arms and laughed for a while before snuggling against Chen Wan, her tone carrying a hint of coquettishness: “You don’t believe me? Alright then, another reason. I was afraid Yang Yang wouldn’t sleep well against the wall, so I moved her to a safer spot.”
Chen Wan snorted softly, clearly not convinced by Jiang Yanxin’s explanation. But she couldn’t think of any other reason. After all, Chen Wan didn’t think Jiang Yanxin moved Yang Yang just to sleep with her. That would be too narcissistic. Jiang Yanxin was sleeping well; why would she want to sleep with her?
However, Chen Wan didn’t dwell on it. After all, they had already slept and woken up, so there was no point in thinking about it. She was just asking casually.
But it was clear Jiang Yanxin didn’t plan to let Chen Wan off so easily. She poked Chen Wan’s chest, “You just snorted at me.”
Her tone carried a bit of grievance, but more of it was like she was acting cute to Chen Wan.
Chen Wan realized this, but she thought it must be her imagination. Would Jiang Yanxin act cute to her? Chen Wan thought for a moment but couldn’t figure it out, so she explained softly to Jiang Yanxin, “I didn’t snort at you. My throat was uncomfortable just now, so I cleared it. I didn’t mean to snort at you.”
Jiang Yanxin was pleased with Chen Wan’s coaxing tone and snuggled against Chen Wan, “That’s more like it. If you dare to be mean to me, Yang Yang and I won’t talk to you.”
Jiang Yanxin’s tone was still soft and sweet, clearly acting cute to Chen Wan.
Unfortunately, Chen Wan, being single, didn’t understand Jiang Yanxin’s meaning and just instinctively continued to coax her, “Alright, how could I dare to be mean to you?”
“That’s more like it.” Jiang Yanxin murmured softly while leaning in Chen Wan’s arms. She liked it when Chen Wan coaxed her like this.
Just as Jiang Yanxin was feeling a bit unsatisfied, Yang Yang, who was sleeping inside, opened her sleepy eyes. Yang Yang rubbed her eyes and looked at Mom and Mommy, feeling like something was off again?
Yang Yang’s small body sat up, and her little hands scratched her uneven short hair. After a good half-minute of waking up and thinking, Yang Yang finally realized what was wrong. She had slept in the middle between Mom and Mommy last night! How did Mommy end up in the middle now?
Yang Yang’s little legs moved restlessly. Jiang Yanxin wasn’t really asleep; she just wanted to lie down a bit longer. Seeing Yang Yang awake, she got up from Chen Wan’s arms, stretched, and smiled at Yang Yang, “Awake? Baby, did you sleep well last night?”
Yang Yang nodded her little head but still asked her question, “Mom, I was sleeping in the middle last night. How come Mommy is in the middle now?”
Chen Wan looked at Jiang Yanxin. She had just heard Jiang Yanxin’s explanation, and although it wasn’t reliable, the latter one was a bit more believable. Chen Wan wanted to hear how Jiang Yanxin would explain it to Yang Yang.
Jiang Yanxin smiled at Yang Yang and explained, “Last night, your Mommy didn’t sleep well. She rolled over you in her sleep, so she ended up in the middle.”
Yang Yang was even more puzzled. Did Mommy really roll over her? Wouldn’t that hurt?
Chen Wan was amused. So Yang Yang moving wasn’t Yang Yang’s fault; it was her fault, and it had nothing to do with Jiang Yanxin at all? She really washed her hands of it.
Jiang Yanxin was also amused by Yang Yang’s serious thinking. She moved past Chen Wan to sit beside Yang Yang and held Yang Yang in her arms, gently coaxing her, “Is your little tummy hungry? Mommy will make eight-treasure porridge for you later. After you wash up, Mom will give you a candy as a reward for sleeping well, unlike your Mommy, who ended up in the middle. How about that?”
Yang Yang was about to think more, but upon hearing about the candy reward, she immediately gave up thinking and acted cute in Jiang Yanxin’s arms, “Mom~ I want peach-flavored candy today. I haven’t had that flavor.”
“Alright, I’ll take you to wash up first. Once your little teeth are brushed clean, Mom will give you candy, okay?” Jiang Yanxin teased Yang Yang.
Yang Yang quickly nodded her little head, no longer concerned about why she wasn’t in the middle. She was completely won over by Jiang Yanxin’s candy, “Okay! Wash up~”
Jiang Yanxin laughed and picked up Yang Yang, raising an eyebrow at Chen Wan with a hint of challenge.
Chen Wan chuckled and shook her head. Her relationship with Jiang Yanxin was strange now, but she couldn’t quite figure out what was strange about it. However, it was much better than when she first met Jiang Yanxin. Back then, Jiang Yanxin was very guarded against her, even secretly hiding a fruit knife. Now, she could lie in her arms and chat happily.
Chen Wan also got up, went to check on Qin Ke, and saw that Qin Ke was still asleep. She touched Qin Ke’s forehead, relieved that there was no fever, and then took out seven cans of eight-treasure porridge, got the pot ready, and started heating the porridge.
By the time Jiang Yanxin and the others came out, the eight-treasure porridge was almost ready.
Chen Wan woke Qin Ke up, asking her to wake up and have breakfast and medicine.
Qin Ke woke up groggily, not sure if it was the medicine or the crystal core, but she didn’t feel as uncomfortable as yesterday.
Chen Wan wanted her to wash up a bit, and then she went to wash up herself. When she came out, Jiang Yanxin had already served the porridge on the table.
Chen Wan went over and sat next to Qin Ke, with Jiang Yanxin sitting across from her.
Chen Wan took a few sips of porridge and asked Qin Ke beside her, “Are you feeling better today? After breakfast, you still need to take your medicine.”
Qin Ke nodded and thanked her, “Thank you for taking care of me these past few days. I’m feeling much better today. If there’s anything you need me to do, just let me know.”
Chen Wan smiled and shook her head, “No rush, just focus on getting better first.”
Qin Ke shook her head, “I need to keep myself busy, otherwise I feel bored. How about I drive? I used to be a special agent in a military district, and I was on leave visiting family when the apocalypse hit. I’m pretty good at driving and familiar with the roads around here.”
Chen Wan thought for a moment and decided not to hide it, “Well, this RV is actually part of my ability. No one else can drive it but me.”
“Ability? Like the ones in movies?” Qin Ke showed some interest.
Chen Wan thought for a moment and explained, “Sort of, but not as flashy as in the movies. The crystal cores we consume not only enhance physical abilities but also have the potential to evolve into abilities. At the start of the apocalypse, I don’t think many people knew about the secret of the crystal cores. After all, even if someone cracked open a zombie’s head, would they really dare to eat the crystal core?”
Qin Ke nodded, agreeing with Chen Wan’s assessment. Most people were too scared to even think about fighting zombies, let alone eating crystal cores.
However, Qin Ke really wanted to find something to do. Whenever she was idle, she would think of Yan Yan. Her wrists were still injured, so she couldn’t wash dishes or cook. She turned her gaze to Yang Yang’s hair.
Yang Yang’s short hair was uneven, like it had been chewed by a dog. Qin Ke turned to Chen Wan and asked, “Do you have scissors? I can help trim Yang Yang’s hair so it can grow into little braids faster.”
Yang Yang was surprised, then her eyes lit up. Every time she washed up, she saw her uneven hair in the mirror but never mentioned it to her mom. The memory of getting her hair cut was still a shadow in her little heart.
Back then, her mommy ignored her sobs and just snipped away at her hair. Even though she cried hard, she didn’t dare resist, fearing her mommy would abandon her. So she had been stuck with uneven short hair until now. Could her little braids grow back? Yang Yang looked at Qin Ke with anticipation, then at her mom.
“We do. You have that skill? Yanxin and I were afraid of messing up Yang Yang’s hair, so we didn’t dare touch it. If you can, please help trim it,” Chen Wan said with a smile.
“When I was on missions as a special agent, sometimes we’d be in the mountains for a month or two, and we’d cut each other’s hair. Over time, we all got the hang of it. I’ll take care of your haircuts from now on,” Qin Ke finally showed a hint of a smile.
“Yang Yang, let Auntie help you trim your hair, okay? Once it grows out, you can have little braids again,” Chen Wan gently coaxed Yang Yang.
Yang Yang’s eyes brightened, and she nodded eagerly. She wanted pretty little braids too!
After breakfast, Chen Wan handed a pair of scissors and a comb to Qin Ke, who then sat Yang Yang on the dining table for convenience.
As Qin Ke carefully trimmed Yang Yang’s hair, the previously uneven short hair was neatly arranged. Yang Yang, already fair-skinned, now had a round, adorable little head like a small bun.
Qin Ke seemed quite satisfied with her handiwork and picked up Yang Yang to show her the mirror in the bathroom.
Yang Yang’s eyes sparkled, “Auntie made it look nice~” Seeing Yang Yang happy, Qin Ke couldn’t help but smile too.
