The Summer You Were There is a complete, six-volume Yuri manga by Yuama. Seven Seas publishes it in English. Start with Volume 1 and read through Volume 6 in order. The story follows a shy writer and the classmate who asks her to date.
If you usually read GL novels, its writing premise may appeal to you. Shizuku’s private manuscript starts the relationship, but you read the story as a manga. This guide covers the official English editions and opening premise. It does not reveal the ending.
A private story becomes a reason to date
Shizuku keeps to herself at school and writes a novel that she does not plan to share. Her popular classmate Kaori reads it. Kaori then suggests that they date to give Shizuku material for another story.
The Seven Seas series page lists Drama, Romance, Slice of Life, and Yuri. The two girls start with different levels of comfort around other people. Their dating arrangement brings Shizuku’s writing into her daily life.
Expect a school romance with emotional difficulties. The cheerful dating proposal is only the opening situation. If you want to know how much difficult content to expect, check that separately before reading later-volume descriptions.
The English story ends at Volume 6
Seven Seas marks Volume 6 as the final volume. Its English release date was 28 January 2025. That linked description contains later-story details, so avoid its summary if you want to read without spoilers.
As checked on 17 October 2026, all six volumes have past release dates. Use this list to identify the English print editions. The ISBNs distinguish the books when you search a shop or library catalogue.

Publication is complete, but that does not confirm current stock. Check the books you need before you buy the rest of the set. A retailer’s delivery estimate applies to that order, not to every volume in the series.
Check the tone as well as the age rating
Seven Seas rates the series Teen (13+). The publisher’s later-volume description also confirms that illness is part of the story. This is a broad content note, not a full list of warnings.
If illness is a subject you need to avoid, ask about that theme before starting. You can request a warning without asking who is affected or how the story ends. Our guide to checking content warnings gives wording you can adapt for the exact manga volume.
Start with the first English edition
Volume 1 has 164 pages and was released in English on 4 October 2022. The publisher provides retailer links. Check the format, language, and availability in your region on the shop’s page before ordering.
If you find a missing volume, our missing-volume guide explains how to check an edition and ask a bookseller about a backorder. Use the manga ISBNs above for this series. Begin with Volume 1 rather than skipping to a later book that happens to be in stock.
