Sayonara Iris Witch: A Yuri Fantasy Novel Guide

Two adult women stand together above floating islands and ruined arches at sunrise.

Sayonara Iris Witch is a fantasy light novel about two witches who meet in a world of floating islands. If you want a Yuri story with travel, lost memories, and a damaged world, its premise is worth a look. Start with volume 1. The Japanese second volume continues the same pair’s journey.

This guide covers the publisher’s story description and Japanese editions. It does not review the full novels or reveal their endings.

What is Sayonara Iris Witch about?

A disaster broke the land into floating islands twenty years before the story begins. Unmanned weapons still move through this world. Travel between isolated communities is dangerous.

Asebi is an Iris Witch who searches for her missing mother. After a crash, she meets Pieris, a girl with a connection to those weapons. Pieris holds Asebi on the island, and the two begin to live together. Their growing attachment becomes part of a larger mystery about the disaster.

The official Dengeki Bunko page describes the pair as drawn to each other. Their relationship is part of the stated premise. The same page identifies the novel as a Gold Prize winner in the 32nd Dengeki Novel Prize.

The Japanese credits name 森上サナオ as the author and きさらぎゆり as the illustrator. The title is さよならアイリスウィッチ. Use that title when you search a Japanese bookshop.

Which volume should you read first?

Read the numbered books in order. Volume 1 introduces the world, Asebi’s search, and her meeting with Pieris. Its Japanese release date was 10 July 2026. The print ISBN is 9784049169256.

KADOKAWA’s volume 2 listing gives a release date of 9 October 2026 and a print ISBN of 9784049524062. The second book moves the story into autumn and continues the pair’s travels. It is a sequel, so its full description can reveal events from the first book.

Check the volume number before you buy. The first book does not have a large “1” in its title. The second has “2” after アイリスウィッチ. Match the ISBN if a shop uses a different translation of the title.

What should GL readers expect?

The premise combines a relationship with a fantasy mystery. A missing parent, weapons, captivity, and the effects of a past disaster are part of the setup. Do not choose it on the assumption that two witches means a quiet, low-conflict romance.

The publisher’s introduction does not establish how every conflict ends. This guide therefore does not promise a happy ending or give a complete list of content warnings. Read the official sample before you decide if the tone suits you.

If you want another fantasy series to compare, our MagiRevo light novel reading order explains where to start that series. For another Japanese title, see our Ikenie no Kunshuron guide.

Check the language before you buy

The editions linked above are in Japanese. An English summary or translated title does not mean that a shop sells an English edition. This guide does not confirm a licensed English release.

Open the official series page, try the sample, and check the language and format on your chosen shop’s listing. If the opening works for you, begin with volume 1 and leave the sequel description until later.
