Out of the Ocean is a released Yuri visual novel by ebi-hime about a girl who meets a mermaid on an island. It has two love interests, choices that affect the ending, and a free demo. If you want a fantasy GL story where you can choose a romantic path, start with that sample.
The creator lists about 120,000 words and estimates six to ten hours of reading. Your pace may differ. This guide uses the official game pages checked on 16 October 2026. It covers the premise and available editions, not a completed playthrough.
A new home and an unexpected meeting
Sakuragi Asuka moves from Tokyo to the island of Omorishima. Her parents will work overseas for a year, so she stays with her aunt. She finds it hard to fit in and worries about making friends at her new school.
Then she meets a mermaid on the beach at night. The story brings Asuka close to Nerine, the mermaid, and Misuzu, her classmate. The developer presents the game as a gentle Yuri romance with a fantasy element.
Choices and a possible shared romance
The creator’s game page confirms that your choices determine the ending. It also lists a poly ending, meaning an ending with a romantic relationship involving more than two people. This is an advertised feature, not a claim about every story path.
You do not need to read a route guide before you try the opening. If you want to reach a particular ending later, choose a guide that marks spoilers clearly. This article does not list the required answers or reveal the final scenes.
For a different reading structure from the same creator, see My Darling Dark Elf. That title has one fixed story path and one ending. Choose between them based on whether you want to make decisions during the romance.
English text and downloadable editions
The official Steam listing confirms English text and offers a separate demo download. The creator’s itch.io page lists Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android downloads. Use the file intended for your device.
This is visual novel software with character art, backgrounds, and music. It is not a prose ebook. The itch.io page also states that a full-game purchase includes a Steam key. Check the current listing before you buy, since prices and purchase terms can change.
The developer’s Steam content note says there is no explicit adult content, but some outfits are revealing. That note does not provide a complete age recommendation. Read the full notice if clothing or other content is a concern for you.
Use the demo to check the reading experience
Download the demo from the creator’s page or Steam. Check the system requirements first. Use the opening to assess the text size, reading controls, and Asuka’s conversations before you pay for the full game.
This guide has not tested installation or whether demo progress transfers to the full version.
If you want another seaside GL story to sample, our UsoNatsu guide covers its English demo and content notes. For Out of the Ocean, begin with the official sample and decide whether you want to continue Asuka’s story.
