The next morning, Bai Ling went to the small grove as usual.
The morning birds were already up early, singing their beautiful songs for the day, searching for food, and raising their young.
The air was still as fresh and pure as ever, the scent of morning dew lingering at the tip of her nose.
Sunlight shone on her face, making her squint comfortably as she enjoyed the warmth at just the right angle.
The sunlight hit the morning dew, refracting into little points of starlight, painting the surroundings in a dreamy color.
After what happened the last few times, Bai Ling didn’t go to the same part of the forest anymore.
She picked a new spot—getting disturbed like that every day just wasn’t going to work.
After enjoying the peace for a while, Bai Ling headed back to the dorm.
Looking at the sleeping Lin Qiufeng, Bai Ling couldn’t help but think of what happened last night.
Her feelings were all mixed up, and she didn’t know what to say.
After thinking it over, she decided to just pretend nothing had happened.
That would be best for both of them.
Having figured it out, Bai Ling didn’t hesitate anymore and went to wake Lin Qiufeng.
But this girl always slept like a log—good thing Bai Ling wasn’t a thief, or she’d be in trouble.
Lin Qiufeng, still half-asleep, rubbed her eyes and looked at Bai Ling with a dazed, cute expression.
Right now, Lin Qiufeng’s clothes were a mess, exposing a lot of skin, but she didn’t seem to notice at all.
“Xiao Ling, it’s still so early, let me sleep a bit longer.” She said, trying to lie back down.
Seeing this, Bai Ling just grabbed her and pulled hard.
“Get up, or we’ll be late!” Bai Ling was speechless—why did this girl love to sleep in so much?
“No, no! Five more minutes!” Lin Qiufeng said, flopping back down.
“Ugh!” Bai Ling sighed.
If she wanted to get this girl up, she’d have to…
“Let’s go get something tasty to eat!”
!!!
Almost instantly, Lin Qiufeng shot up like a carp flipping out of water.
Bai Ling gave her a deadpan look and said nothing.
“Heh, heh heh, let’s go eat, let’s go eat.” Lin Qiufeng laughed awkwardly, using food as an excuse.
“Then hurry up and get changed and wash up.
You’re not planning to go out looking like that, are you?” Bai Ling really couldn’t bear to look.
Lin Qiufeng instinctively glanced down at herself, then blushed bright red.
“Wait a sec, I’ll be quick.” She said, and started taking off her pajamas right in front of Bai Ling.
Bai Ling wasn’t interested in watching her change, so she just went out and waited at the door.
A moment later, Lin Qiufeng came out.
“Let’s go!” Bai Ling glanced at her and took the lead.
Lin Qiufeng naturally caught up from behind and linked arms with Bai Ling.
They each ordered some simple food and finished up quickly.
When they got to the classroom, as expected, they were once again the center of attention.
Bai Ling didn’t even know what to say anymore, or what kind of expression to use.
It was always like this—weren’t they tired of it? She wished she could just stop coming to class.
Bai Ling and Lin Qiufeng went straight to their seats and sat down, closing their eyes to block it all out.
Bai Ling wondered if she was almost done with her mission.
It had been days! Maybe she should go ask Xu Wenjing about it sometime.
Soon, Zitong came into the classroom.
She immediately spotted Bai Ling sitting in the corner with her eyes closed and smiled slightly, walking in with her usual magical pressure.
The students didn’t even need to look to know who had arrived.
They all sat up straight, like little kids listening attentively.
Bai Ling opened her eyes too.
When only Teacher Zitong was in the classroom, those jerks would finally behave themselves, though they’d still sneak glances at Bai Ling from time to time.
“Those who didn’t succeed yesterday can try again today.” With Zitong’s announcement, the students started practicing magic guidance again.
Magic guidance was simple.
As long as you’d awakened your magic, you’d succeed eventually—it was just a matter of time.
Not long after, once everyone in the class had succeeded, Zitong continued, “Try channeling your magic to your fingertips.
If it lights up, you’ve done it.”
The students did as they were told.
Bai Ling tried as well, and easily made a faint green light appear at her fingertip.
The classroom lit up with all sorts of colors as the students completed the task with ease.
“Very good.
That’s all for today’s lesson.
Tomorrow I’ll teach you how to draw magic circles.
Not everyone can do this, so you’d better be ready.” Zitong said with a teasing tone, looking at the students with a hint of disdain, as if she didn’t think they could pull it off.
“Next, let me tell you about the academy’s side professions.
There are only three: first, blacksmith—usually fire element mages can try this; second, inscriptionist, which is much harder.
You have to know how to draw magic circles first, so I suggest you wait until you’ve mastered that before trying.
Third, alchemist, which is the hardest.
For most people, becoming an alchemist is almost impossible, so I don’t recommend it.
But if you think you can do it, go ahead—I won’t stop you.
You can pick any side profession, even all three, as long as you’re capable.”
“And for these side professions, you just go to the relevant vocational institute for the assessment.
If you pass, good luck to you!”
“Each assessment is different, and you need to know something about the profession first.
Otherwise, you’ll just embarrass yourself, and I won’t get involved in your side profession business.”
“Side professions are always recruiting.
If you don’t get in the first time, you can try again, but there’s a time limit before the next assessment.
I don’t know the exact timing.”
“Alright, enough talk.
You’ll figure it out yourselves.
Class dismissed!” Zitong announced impatiently.
She was tired of rambling on every day.
As soon as Zitong left the classroom, Bai Ling chased after her.
She didn’t want to be gawked at like a monkey every day.
“Teacher Zitong, I don’t want to come to class anymore.
Is that okay?” Bai Ling felt a little embarrassed.
Was she being too blunt? Would Zitong think she didn’t like her teaching?
“Why?” Zitong didn’t seem upset.
She knew Bai Ling was special and couldn’t be treated like everyone else, so she wasn’t angry—she just wanted to know Bai Ling’s reason.
“Because I can study on my own.” Bai Ling said seriously.
“Hmm~! Alright, I’ll talk to the headmaster and see if you can get into the library.
I’ll let you know tomorrow, okay?” Teacher Zitong thought for a moment, then asked Bai Ling in a questioning tone.
“Okay, thank you so much!” Bai Ling smiled happily in thanks.
“It’s nothing.
Anything else?” Zitong asked.
“Nope!”
“Then I’ll be off.” Zitong smiled.
“Okay, goodbye, Teacher Zitong.”
