“Hey, Bai Ling, are you planning to eat outside or just eat in the academy cafeteria?” Lin Qiufeng couldn’t help but ask as soon as they walked out of the classroom.
“Hmm, it’s all the same to me, but it’s probably better to eat at the academy.
It all feels the same anyway.” Bai Ling replied indifferently.
For her, it didn’t matter where she ate—it was just a meal, after all.
“Okay, then let’s eat in the academy.
We can also take a look around Yulin Academy.”
“That’s exactly what I was thinking.” Bai Ling smiled slightly.
After leaving the building, they headed straight to the back.
As for why they were going that way, Bai Ling, who was new here, had no idea.
So she just followed Lin Qiufeng, assuming Lin Qiufeng knew where the cafeteria was, and didn’t say much—just followed along.
It wasn’t long before the two of them found themselves on a quiet path at the back of the academy.
But as they kept walking, there were fewer and fewer people around, which made Bai Ling a bit suspicious.
If the cafeteria was this way, it shouldn’t be so deserted.
But when Bai Ling glanced at Lin Qiufeng’s face and saw how relaxed she looked, she didn’t say anything and just kept following.
After all, it wasn’t like there would be any danger in the academy, and even if there was, she believed she could protect Lin Qiufeng.
They kept walking, and when they reached a grove of trees, Bai Ling finally couldn’t help but ask, “Qiufeng, are you sure this is the way to the cafeteria?”
“Huh? Isn’t it?” Lin Qiufeng looked completely shocked, thinking, wait, weren’t you the one leading me this way?
“Don’t tell me you don’t know how to get to the cafeteria.” Bai Ling pretended to be a little annoyed.
“Huh? I was just following you! I thought you knew the way to the cafeteria.” Lin Qiufeng’s mouth dropped open as she stared at Bai Ling in disbelief.
Bai Ling was speechless.
How did she end up with such a clueless girl?
If neither of them knew, what were they even doing here?
“I was following you, okay!” Bai Ling said helplessly, rubbing her forehead.
“Uh, so… what do we do now?” Lin Qiufeng said, a little embarrassed.
She’d thought Bai Ling knew the way, but it turned out Bai Ling was just as lost as she was.
“What else can we do? Go back the way we came, then see if we can ask someone for directions to the cafeteria, or maybe look for a map or something.” Bai Ling wasn’t too sure about any of this either.
After all, it was her first time here too.
“Uh, alright, I guess that’s all we can do.” Lin Qiufeng looked a bit dejected.
“Come on, it’s just a wrong turn, no need to be so down.
Look at you, you’re acting like a little kid.” Bai Ling teased.
“You’re the little kid! I’m not that young anymore.” Lin Qiufeng puffed out her cheeks and glared at Bai Ling, looking like a cute little tiger about to pounce.
“Yeah, yeah, you’re not a kid anymore, you’re an adult now, you wouldn’t get lost over something this small, right?” Bai Ling reached out and playfully poked Lin Qiufeng’s puffed-up cheeks.
“Hmph, I’m not talking to you anymore, bad Bai Ling.” With that, she turned and ran off.
Bai Ling shrugged helplessly and chased after her.
After some effort, they finally found the cafeteria.
But by then, the cafeteria was already packed, with a long line stretching out the door, which made Lin Qiufeng really frustrated.
“Ugh, there are so many people! How long are we going to have to wait? I’m starving.” Lin Qiufeng complained, holding her little stomach.
If it hadn’t been for that awkward detour, they might have already finished eating by now.
The cafeteria was pretty much full, but there was a second floor.
Only the children of nobles usually went upstairs, since the food on the second floor was better than the first.
Most of the dishes upstairs were made from the meat of magical beasts—low-level ones, but still magical beasts that could use fa-magic, so their bodies were full of magical elements.
After being prepared, the meat was not only delicious but could also increase the eater’s magic affinity.
Magic affinity was the ability of a mage to communicate with the magical elements in the air to draw magic circles.
Usually, only mages who could use magic circles understood how important magic affinity was, since it made a big difference in drawing them.
“Why don’t we eat upstairs?” Bai Ling suggested.
“But isn’t it really expensive up there? And I didn’t bring much money.” Lin Qiufeng looked at Bai Ling with a bit of a resentful look.
Damn nobles.
“I’ll just treat you.” Bai Ling said casually.
“But isn’t that a bit much? I can’t let you pay for me.” Lin Qiufeng was clearly happy to hear that, but her expression quickly dimmed.
“It’s fine, it’s nothing.
If you consider me a friend, don’t be so polite.
I don’t like it when friends fuss over this stuff.” Bai Ling was actually a little annoyed this time.
“Okay… fine.” Seeing that Bai Ling was really upset, Lin Qiufeng stopped arguing about it.
“Good, that’s more like it.” Bai Ling grinned when she saw her give in.
“But next time, let me treat you, Bai Ling.
Otherwise, I’ll feel bad.” Lin Qiufeng still cared about it.
“Sure, I’ll be waiting!” Bai Ling said with a mischievous smile, then headed for the stairs to the second floor.
Sure enough, there were way fewer people upstairs, but everyone there was dressed in fancy clothes—young masters and ladies.
After ordering at the window, they found a corner to sit in.
“Hey, Bai Ling, is your family a noble too?” As soon as they sat down, Lin Qiufeng couldn’t help but ask.
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“I knew it.
Someone as talented and well-mannered as you must be from a noble family.”
“It’s not a big deal.
To me, there’s no difference between nobles and commoners.
We’re all people, living under the same sky, breathing the same air.” Bai Ling looked out the window at the sky, her gaze distant, as if she was remembering something.
“Nobles really are nobles—even the way you talk sounds so refined.”
Just then, their food arrived.
Most of it was magical beast meat, all ordered by Lin Qiufeng, since she was a total carnivore.
Bai Ling ordered some vegetables and some meat, not just eating meat.
After they finished eating and tidied up, they decided to walk around the campus together.
There was still plenty of time before the afternoon class assignments, so with nothing else to do, they planned to explore the campus, check out the scenery, and get familiar with the map.
Otherwise, if they got lost again like today, it would be really embarrassing.
